Announcing Rebel Transmute, a Metroidvania set on a Living Planet, is Launching on Kickstarter Aug 30th
OAKLAND – AUGUST 18, 2022 – Solo developer Evan Tor Games announced today that their upcoming title Rebel Transmute, a sprawling metroidvania with fully customizable combat and platforming, is coming to Kickstarter. In Rebel Transmute players take on the role of Moon Mikono, a space scrapper turned adventurer on a mission to uncover the true fate of her missing mother. Along the way they’ll explore vibrant ecosystems, befriend sentient robots, and fight the colonizers occupying Terra 6.
The Kickstarter campaign will be launching on August 30th at 9AM EST, and will run for 30 days. During that time backers and fans will have the opportunity to partake in speedrunning competitions, art contests, developer Q&A’s, and more for the chance to win a copy of the game or even be written into the game itself. In addition a new and free demo for Rebel Transmute will accompany the Kickstarter, showing off the first hour or so of the game as well as an additional boss challenge mode.
Rebel Transmute allows players to play through a classic sci-fi adventure in their own style. While most games in the genre might boast a dozen or so upgrades to gather as players explore, Rebel Transmute has over 50. These upgrades, known as Augments, are game-changing abilities that can be equipped, swapped out, and combined to create unique playstyles and paths through the game. In Rebel Transmute, players augment their play-style to match their strengths. These augments will also be necessary if players want to explore the dozen different biomes, defeat challenging bosses, survive encounters with over a hundred unique enemies, and aid an endearing cast of characters on various side-quests.
Rebel Transmute is also a thoughtful game that aims to address the colonialist roots of the metroidvania genre as well as explore modern workplace dynamics, but extrapolated to the stars. This game explores how workers might react when exploited and used by a corporation to ravage a living planet. At 26, Evan (of Evan Tor Games) has grown up in a world on the brink, watching climate catastrophes, wealth inequalities, and the failing promises of capitalism all get worse. As the United States, where Evan resides, sees a wave of unionization and workers rights efforts, Rebel Transmute is his way of adding to the conversation, and working through the times we live in.
